RUTLAND - Donald L. White, 92, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 12, 2022. He was born in Ware, the son of Samuel and Albina (LeBlanc) White and had lived most of his life in Rutland.
After graduating from Worcester Boys Trade School, Don enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1949. He rose to the rank of Corporal and served in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1952. He was a machinist by trade and worked for 26 years at Morgan Construction Co. in Worcester until retiring in 1990. Don loved everything about the weather. You could easily find him on most days checking his many weather station throughout out the house collecting data on the latest forecast. Another favorite hobby of Don's was watching and feeding the birds or building birdhouses in his workshop. He also enjoyed bowling, reading a good book and collected clocks in his leisure. He will be sadly missed by his loving family.
He leaves his loving wife of 65 years, Claire R. (Pothier) White; his two sons, Robert S. White and his wife, Kristine of Surprise, AZ and James W. White and his wife, Rosa of Rutland; his daughters, Barbara A. Parker and her husband, Jeffrey of Brookfield, Donna M. Mitchell and her husband, Kenneth of Spencer and Jeanine T. Nahkla and her husband, Don of Warren; his nine grandchildren, Steven, Lisa, Brian, Lila, Sarah, Douglas, Jacob, Megan and Chelsea; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, James and William White and his sister, Pearl Evans.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Donald's family on Monday, October 17th from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, 258 Main Street, Rutland. Burial will then follow at Rural Cemetery in Rutland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice & Palliative Care, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608.
