HOLDEN - Donald K. Ludington, 95, was born in Fair Haven, Connecticut on February 4, 1919 the second youngest child of Alexander and Ella Mae (VanHorn) Ludington.
His wife, Evelyn (Hotchkiss) Ludington, the love of his life, predeceased him in 2003. He is survived by their daughter, Karen E. Ludington, and her husband, Thomas C. Lynch, of Shirley, Massachusetts; two step-granddaughters; two step-great grandchildren who brought joy to his and Evelyn’s lives, and nieces and nephews.
Don enlisted in the U.S. Navy in World War II and became an instructor in airplane mechanics. His career after the war was in the building materials industry, including 20 years as Regional Manager of the Northeastern Retail Lumber Dealers Association. He and Evelyn later owned and ran the East Hampton Building Materials Corporation. Don could do any aspect of building construction, from laying a foundation to wiring an addition.
Don lived for many years in East Haven, Connecticut, where he was active in local politics, serving as Minority Leader of the Representative Town meeting. He also chaired the Building Committee of the Foxon Congregational Church and shared his beautiful tenor voice in the church choir. After he and Evelyn moved to Massachusetts, they volunteered at fundraising events for Children’s Friend, which they both loved. Don always enjoyed traveling and would have his suitcase packed days in advance of every trip. He, Evelyn, and Karen traveled to Bermuda so many times it felt like a second home. He and Evelyn toured the country in their motor home and made several trips to Hawaii and Europe.
All arrangements will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. The family requests that flowers be omitted and that donations be made in Don’s honor and memory to Children’s Friend, Inc., 21 Cedar St., Worcester, MA 01609.
