Donald B. Ichton

December 20, 1942 — September 28, 2021

WORCESTER - Donald B. Ichton, 78, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021 after a courageous 2-1/2-year battle with metastatic colon cancer and a 12-year struggle with Wegener’s autoimmune disease. He was proud to have served in the US Marine Corps and to be an alumnus of Lawrence’s Central Catholic High School. He was the son of Anne M. (Sapka) and Bruno F. Ichton and brother of Leonard A. Ichton and wife Linda and his children, Diana, Benjamin, and Geoffrey.

Donald filled his life with his passions: Worcester musicians (near and far), rock and roll and Blues; fishing, boating and cruising from Maine to Montauk; cultivating orchids, air plants, cacti, and huge elk horns ferns; Skip Barber Formula 1 driving school (he loved his little Veloster sports car!); Patriots, Red Sox, and Bruins game days with friends. He loved cooking with fine wine, on occasion he would even use it in a recipe.

Donald leaves behind a Donald-shaped space in the hearts of many, many friends and family who filled his life with joy: his wife Elizabeth; sisters- and brothers-in-law Penelope and Mark Allison, Cyndi and Geoffrey Shropshire, Stephanie Loeffler and Mark Savidge, Pamela and Thomas Robb, Kimberley Shropshire and Terry Lisansky, and Jennifer and Peter Demusz. Many cousins. Donald cherished all of his 52 (!) nieces and nephews. Legacy Publishing Group and the Dunns were his beloved 9-to-5 family.

Donald was larger than life, embracing everyone -- and everyone embraced him back. He was “Uncle Donald” to all the men in Joshua’s fraternity. A unique t-shirt gift said it all: “Uncle Donald, The Man, The Myth, The Legend.”

A celebration memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021 at the White Eagle Bar and Tavern Polish Club, 116-120 Green St, Worcester, MA 01604. Burial-at-sea is planned for Wednesday, October 13.
