RUTLAND – Donald “Rick” H. Cooney, Jr., 60, of Maple Avenue, died on Friday, June 29, 2012 at UMass Memorial Healthcare – University Campus in Worcester. Rick was born in Worcester, the son of Donald H. and Hildred I. (White) Cooney and lived most of his life in Rutland.
Rick graduated from Wachusett Regional High School in Holden and worked over 10 years at Fisher Auto Parts in Holden where he was a manager. Previously, he worked many years at ECC Corp in Jefferson. He enjoyed outdoor activities including hunting and fishing, and was a member of the Hubbardston Rod and Gun Club. He was active with the Mohegan Council, Boy Scouts of America and was a long time counselor at Treasure Valley Scout Reservation in Rutland.
He is survived by his brother, Michael C. Cooney of Columbus, Nebraska; a nephew and a niece, Douglas and Amy Cooney both of Columbus; several great nephews and nieces; and a close friend, Robert E. Dumas of Dade City, Florida.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial luncheon at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 8, at the Hubbardston Rod and Gun Club, 55 Williamsville Road, Hubbardston. A private graveside will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Moretown, Vermont. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 33 Lyman Street, Suite 304, Westborough, MA 01581. Arrangements are under the guidance of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
