West Boylston – Dominic R. Gonelli, 68, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at St. Mary’s Healthcare in Worcester on Friday, July 21, 2023. He was born in Norwich, CT, the son of the late John J. and Mary E. (Grimes) Gonelli and grew up in West Boylston.
Dominic graduated from West Boylston High School with the class of 1974 and worked at the former SPAG’S store in Shrewsbury for several years. He then worked for 37 years at Hanover Insurance Co. as a Facilities Specialist, retiring in 2018. Dominic had also volunteered at Oakdale Nursing Home in West Boylston and drove for Meals on Wheels.
Family was everything to Dominic. He had a lifelong passion for cooking and baking and especially loved to prepare meals for his family. Dominic was the ultimate handyman and did most of the special projects around his home. He enjoyed many trips with his family to the Cape and Florida and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Dominic is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Maureen M. (soldi) Gonelli; his daughters, Gina Rodriguez and her husband, Juan of West Boylston, Jamie Lamprey and her husband, James of Port Orange, FLA and Alexys Gonelli and her Fiancé, Antonio Perrone of West Boylston; his brother, Paul Gonelli and his wife, Stephanie of Worcester; his grandchildren, Tati, Damian, Dominic, Precious and J.J.; his great grandchildren, Giylea, Sonni and Kaia; his father-in-law, Edward Soldi; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Debra Soldi, Eddie and Karol Soldi, Carol and Bryant Hall, David Soldi, Darlene Soldi; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, John and Michael Gonelli; and sister Deborah Bradley.
Dominic’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at St. Mary’ Healthcare in Worcester for the care and compassion they gave Dominic during his stay with them.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend calling hours from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Rd., Sterling. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 31, 2023, at Saint John the Guardian of Our Lady Parish, 80 Union St., Clinton. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011 Washington, DC 20090-6011 or to Boston Children's Hospital Trust, 401 Park Drive Suite 602, Boston, MA 02215-5301.
