Biography
WORCESTER – Dolores T. (Gecavich) Skonieczny, 85, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2015 at St. Vincent Hospital after an illness. She was born in Central Fall, RI, the daughter of Anthony and Sophie (Zabek) Bergstrom Gecavich. She graduated from Commerce High School and had lived most of her life in the Worcester area.
Her loving husband of 53 years, Henry “Skunny” M. Skonieczny, passed away in 2002. She leaves a son, Kenney Skonieczny and his wife, Susan of Worcester; a daughter, Jacqueline A. Hochstin of Plymouth; a sister, Helen T. Dymek of Worcester; six grandchildren, Leslie, Jared and Kyle Hochstin and Jason, Sara and Lauren Skonieczny; a great grandson, Thomas Hochstin; as well as nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by a sister, Patricia Kiritsy.
Dolores was a secretary for 15 years at Norton Company before retiring in 1990. She was an active member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church where she was a Eucharist Minister and a member of the Guild of Our Lady of Providence. Dolores volunteered at the Visiting Nurse Association on Thomas Street and at St. Vincent Hospital. She played “Mexican Train” every Friday night with her friends at Colony Village.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Funeral services for Mrs. Skonieczny will be held on Sat., Aug. 29, from the funeral home with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 25 Fales Street, Worcester. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA Care Network, Development Office, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608-1280.
