Diane (Clevenson) Stone

Biography
WORCESTER - Diane (Clevenson) Stone, 96, died Tuesday October 17 in Wayland. She lived in Worcester for over 60 years. She leaves her two sons, Ralph and his wife, Nancy of Wellesley and Dan and his wife, Lynne Helfand of Lexington; grandchildren, Douglas and his wife, Deborah Hemel, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Joshua and Rachel; and great grandchildren, Nathaniel and Rebecca.  Diane is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Dr. H. Nathan Stone, who passed away July 25, 2005, and her siblings, Anne, Lee, Gerry, Julius, Sam, Henry, Dorothy, Helene and Sherman.   Diane was born in Laconia, New Hampshire in 1920, daughter of Harry and Sadie (Goodman) Clevenson.  She attended the University of New Hampshire and the University of Illinois.  She worked for Norton Company and was a teacher and volunteer in the pre-school program at Temple Emmanuel for many years.  She was active at the Jewish Community Center and Midland Street School.  She belonged, and was committed to many civic organizations and volunteered her time to most of them.  She was a Braille transcriber at Temple Emmanuel for many years and a volunteer at UMass Medical Center- University complex for 25 years where she received an award for volunteering over 8000 hours of service.   She was B'Nai Brith Woman of the Year twice for outstanding volunteer community service and received the New Sisterhood award for outstanding service on volunteer projects. Among her many charitable endeavors, she organized the 'Nifty Knitters' a group of women from the auxiliary of the Jewish Healthcare Center who made children's items and sold them at craft fairs.  The proceeds benefited residents of the Jewish Healthcare Center.  The group also donated hats and mittens to the children at head start programs and Friendly House. GRAVESIDE FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 11:00 AM ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 20TH IN B’NAI BRITH CEMETERY ON ST. JOHN’S ROAD IN WORCESTER UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF MILES FUNERAL HOME OF HOLDEN. Memorial Observance will be announced at the time of the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Jewish Healthcare Center, 629 Salisbury St., Worcester MA 01609.
