Dennis J. Murphy, 61, of Worcester, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 19, 2017. A son of the late Terrence J. and Esther (Smith) Murphy, he was raised in Rutland and graduated from Wachusett Regional High School. Dennis was a Verizon technician for more than twenty years. Those who knew Dennis best will recall that he was an avid motorcycle and Harley-Davidson enthusiast. He developed many lifelong friendships through his passion for riding. He was an exceptional automobile mechanic since childhood and best known for his dry humor. Dennis will be affectionately remembered and missed by his two daughters, Heather E. Murphy and Erin P. Murphy; Heather’s fiancé, John M. Berube; his former wife, Cheryl P. (Clark) Ritchie, all of Newmarket, New Hampshire; his two brothers, Lawrence D. Murphy of Sterling and Terrence V. Murphy and his wife, Nancy, of Charlton; his sister, Evelyn D. Murphy MacDonald and her husband Colin of Rutland; three grandchildren, Ethan and Daniel Berube and Brooklyn Murphy; his two nephews, Sean MacDonald and Robert J. LaPierre; his niece, Karrie E. Escoto and grandniece, Lila MacDonald. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Dennis’ family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A funeral service honoring his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 25, at the First Congregational Church of Rutland, 258 Main St. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 300 Fifth Ave., Suite 6, Waltham, MA 02451.
