WORCESTER - Dennis “Denny” E. Demars, 69, of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 26, 2014 at St. Vincent Hospital. Born in Worcester on December 18, 1944, he was the son of the late Roland and Elsie (Lahtinen) Demars. He was a lifelong resident of Worcester.
Following graduation from South High School, Denny enlisted in the United States Navy and honorably served his country during the Vietnam era. He was a field engineer for 25 years at IBM Corporation and 10 years for Eastman Kodak Company.
Denny was a Cub Scout leader and soccer coach when his children were young. He was a member of the Leicester Rod & Gun Club, an avid reader, and enjoyed building and flying model airplanes, skiing and riding dirt bikes. An outdoorsman, nothing gave him more pleasure than sailing on the waters of Indian Lake.
He leaves behind his longtime companion, Jean L. O’Halloran of Worcester; a loving daughter, Jennifer A. Demars-Owens of San Francisco, CA and her mother, Christine R. Demars of Worcester; his son-in-law, Brian Owens and granddaughter Elaine Demars-Owens of CA; two brothers, Kenneth Demars and his wife, Sally of CT and Gerald Demars and his wife, Sherry of FL and RI. A son, Scott E. Demars and sister, Elaine Cheney predeceased him.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with Denny’s family from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, followed by a memorial service honoring his life at 12:00 noon. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
