HOLDEN – Denis R. Cote, 69, beloved husband of Paula (Johnson) Cote, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home, with his family by his side, on Friday, September 9, 2022. Born and raised in Fitchburg, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Legendre) Cote.
Denis was called to serve the Lord in his younger years. He attended St. Mary’s Seminary and began his ministry in Spencer where he was loved greatly by his parishioners. Eventually, Denis heard another call. Denis and Paula were married and together they moved to Holden where they raised their family. His was a dedicated member of St. Mary’s Parish in Jefferson for many years. Denis was a talented guitarist and enjoyed playing with his folk group and in his spare time he could often be found tending to his garden. Denis was admired by his friends and neighbors and will be remembered as a kind, generous and patient man.
He will be lovingly missed and remembered by his wife of 29 years, Paula; his son, Aaron Cote of Holden; his two sisters, Simone Klemen and her husband, Joseph of North Dakota and Martha Purol of Grayslake, IL; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, Zeus. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Bernard Cote Norman Cote; and his a sister, Jeanne Ross.
Services are private and under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be made to the ALS Research Association, P.O. Box 37022, Boone, IA 50037-0022.
