Debra A. (Lavigne) Stuart

July 27, 1961 — January 30, 2013

BARRE – Debra A. Stuart, 51, of Barre, passed away peacefully with her loving family at her side on Wednesday, January 30, 2013, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Born in Worcester and raised in Sterling, she was the daughter of Geraldine (Meola) and Clifford “Kip” A. LaVigne, Jr.

Debbie graduated from Wachusett Regional High School in 1979 and from Worcester State College in 1983 with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She began her career teaching at the Head Start Program in Worcester for 3 years. She then taught part-time in both the Oakham Center School and New Braintree Elementary School before becoming a full-time, much-loved kindergarten teacher for the Oakham Center School for the past 26 years.

Debbie married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Mark C. Stuart, in 1983. In 1988 they moved to Barre where they raised their two children. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Barre. She was an avid reader and loved spending time at the beach in Maine and Hilton Head, SC. Her love for the taste of good food was evident as she always enjoyed hosting the holidays and dining with friends. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. Debbie will be remembered for being an exceptional woman, always considering others needs above her own. A friend said that “There has never been a more beautiful woman, both inside and out, who ever walked the earth”. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, teacher and friend.

She is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Mark C. Stuart; her precious children, Taryn and Tanner Stuart both of Barre; her mother, Geraldine (Meola) LaVigne of Moody, ME; her sisters, twin, Robin A. Merchant and her husband, Peter of Gardner and Kimberly A. Lipka and her husband, Allan of Shrewsbury; her grandfather, Clifford A. LaVigne, Sr. of Worcester; nieces and nephews; and many cherished friends and students. She was predeceased by her father, Kip LaVigne in 2009.

Debbie’s family would like to thank Dr. Susan Zweizig and her outstanding staff at the Levine Cancer Center in Worcester for their compassionate care and friendship.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 3, at the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 4, at St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge Street, Sterling, followed by Debbie’s burial at Hillside Cemetery, Sterling.
