Deborah Holmes

RUTLAND - Deborah Jean Holmes, age 59 of Rutland, Massachusetts passed on February 24, 2023, after a remarkable one year and three-month battle against stage four pancreatic cancer.

Debi was a fun and caring spitfire with a wisecrack for every situation. Those dear to her remember her as selfless, both as a professional who committed her career to human services, and as a loving sister, aunt, and friend. Debi enjoyed spending time with her family traveling to tropical climates like Florida and Jamaica and treasured basking in the sun. She was also fond of going to the bright lights city of fabulous Las Vegas to play her luck at the slots. In all her travels, Debi claimed that Lake Winnipesaukee was her happy place. Debi embraced the little things, like kicking back and spending time with the family, even without cause for celebration. Debi always maintained her boisterous spirit, making people laugh with her infectious sassiness. As a shopaholic with love for a great find, many will recall Debi's keen sense of style and big diva energy. Her perspective was genuine and uninhibited, with a true sense that rules were meant to be broken. She was bold, defiant, and likely to break the confines of the traditional boxes many of us find ourselves wrapped up in. Debi adored miniature things, dogs, and freebies. She was loved beyond words and will continue to live on in the hearts of those whose lives she has touched over the years. Debi will be remembered for her quick wit and iconic laugh. Debi will be solemnly missed by her family, her sidekick, and dear friends as extraordinary and fearless. Wolf pack howl!

Debi is predeceased by her parents Jon G. and Arline D. Holmes. Debi leaves behind her beloved family including her sister Karen and Julian Votruba and their family with whom she resided while battling her illness. Additionally, Debi leaves behind her sister Brenda and Barry Fass-Holmes and brother Glen and Lila Holmes and their family. She leaves behind her dog Gracie.

Debi's family is holding a private celebration of life to honor her legacy at a future date. In lieu of flowers, people are invited to donate to the Sterling Animal Shelter in Debi's name.
