PAXTON – Deane R. Huggett, 71, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Tippett Hospice Home in Needham after an illness. Born in Holden on October 24, 1945, Deane was the son Ralph D. and Helen M. (Allen) Huggett, lived most of his life in Paxton and several years in Jupiter, Florida.Deane was a 1963 graduate of Wachusett Regional High School in Holden and received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Massachusetts in 1968. He received his master's degree in education from Assumption College in 1980. His professional career as a mechanical engineer and a sales representative spanned over 30 years for Norton Company before retiring from Saint Gobain in 2003. He was fortunate to travel all over the world and form lasting friendships with his many coworkers. He enjoyed playing golf at Holden Hills, Wachusett, and Kettle Brook and was a member of the Paxton Golf League. A highlight of his golfing career was playing golf with his dad at Pebble Beach. Deane was responsible for organizing an annual golf outing in Florida with Saint Gobain retirees and family. While living in Florida, he loved playing softball in the Jupiter Men’s Softball League. Deane never missed an opportunity to socialize with his friends and could be found on Wednesday mornings enjoying their company in what has been coined the “Paxton Breakfast Club.” First and foremost, Deane was a devoted father, grandfather, son, and friend. He was proud of his family and their many accomplishments and will be remembered for his smile, kind heart and generosity. As a life long Yankees fan, he even cheered when the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004. Deane will be affectionately missed and remembered by his daughter, Heidi H. O'Connor, M.D. and her husband Marc of Waltham; his son, Andrew D. Huggett and his wife, Priya of San Diego; his mother, Helen M. Huggett of Paxton; two grandchildren, Logan and Chloe Helen Huggett, and his former wife, Gail Benson of West Yarmouth.
