David H. Whitmore, 78, of Sterling, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025 leaving behind a legacy of dedication, curiosity, and kindness. He is the loving husband of Judith (Anderson) Whitmore, with whom he has shared 51 years of marriage.
Born in Fitchburg, the son of the late Ronald and Elsa (Vennberg) Whitmore, David grew up among the apple orchards in Harvard. He met the love of his life, Judith on a blind double date with mutual friends. They built a loving family and devoted themselves to careers in education, together.
David worked alongside his wife for over 30 years at Shrewsbury High School, both as science teachers, inspiring countless students with their passion for learning and exploration. After retiring in 2004, they continued to make an impact by volunteering their time to mentoring students in the Science Seminar program at Wachusett Regional High School, fostering curiosity in science and a love for discovery in young minds. David was also actively involved with his sons and his wife in Scouting where he served as an Assistant Scoutmaster in Troop 189 of Sterling, helping young people grow as individuals learning many skills and developing as citizens, and attending week-long summer camps at Camp Wanocksett in Dublin, NH.
Outside the classroom, David had a fondness for vintage automobiles and was a fan of stock car racing. He would take his family to NASCAR races at the racetrack in Loudon NH every year to share his passion and often participated in antique car shows around New England. He was especially proud of the classic AMC Ambassador that he purchased in 2015, just like the one he owned when he met Judith. He was a skilled model train enthusiast and an avid photographer, always seen with a camera in hand, capturing favorite moments of his family's life and precious memories. David's warmth, knowledge, endless enthusiasm and love for family will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Along with his wife Judith, David leaves behind his two sons, Andrew Whitmore of Leominster, and Daniel Whitmore and his wife Elizabeth of Holden; and his two beloved grandsons, Benjamin and Miles.
Funeral services will be announced at a later date.
