Biography
WORCESTER – David C. Provost, Jr., 80, a resident of the Briarwood Retirement Community, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at UMass Memorial Healthcare, University Campus, Worcester after an illness. He was born in Worcester, son of David C. and Kathleen E. (O’Donnell) Provost, and lived many years in Worcester, later in West Boylston, before moving back to Worcester in 2010.
He leaves his wife, Henrietta C. (Kelleher) Dellasanta Provost; three sons, Daniel J. Provost of Manchester, NH, David J. Provost and his wife Tracey and Donald J. Provost and his wife Susan, all of Paxton; a daughter, Ann C. Howland and her husband James of Worcester; four step-children, Sally A. Husson and her husband John of Dudley, James H. Dellasanta and his wife Teresa of Princeton, David M. Dellasanta of West Boylston and Patricia M. Minnich and her husband Dennis of Sterling; two sisters, Janet Wile of Maple Shade, NJ and Elaine Reynolds Lane of Worcester; 14 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. His first wife of 46 years, Barbara H. (Hill) Provost, died in 2003. Two brothers, Joseph and John Provost, predeceased him.
David graduated from St. John’s High School in 1950 and attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He was a Fire & Safety Engineer for the New England area of Schirmer Engineering Corporation in Illinois where he worked for 25 years. David was a Eucharistic Minister, Lector and a member of the Retiree Club at St. Christopher’s Church in Worcester and a member and officer of the local Worcester Chapter of AARP. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and was an avid N.E. sports fan.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, February 6, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 7, from the funeral home with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Christopher’s Church, 950 West Boylston Street (Rte. 12), Worcester. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street, Worcester.
