Biography
I was born May 27th, 1940 in Parkchester, New York. I grew up in Westport, Connecticut and graduated from Staples High School in 1958. I went on to study at the University of Connecticut and then moved to New York City and entered the world of retail with Gimbel Brothers Department Store.
I met my lovely wife of 50 years, Bunny, at work. One morning when I walked into my office she was sitting at my desk. Less than 2 weeks later we were engaged, I was not going to let her get away. We were married a year later in Plainview, New York.
After a brief stint in New Jersey we moved to Riverdale, New York. I worked for Abraham & Strauss on Long Island before Bunny and I moved to Massachusetts in 1970.
I loved living in Massachusetts. I started a sales business which I maintained for 25 years. Being a people person I thoroughly enjoyed the face to face aspect of sales and marketing. I worked side by side with my wife for 10 years. When it came time to sell my business I decided to pursue my passion for automobiles. After repeatedly visiting a dealership to talk about specs and models because I like that sort of stuff, they jokingly asked me if I was going to buy a car. I told them no but that I would sell one. They told me I could have a job if I in fact could sell a car; I turned around and sold one thus beginning a second venture in sales. In addition to working in automobiles I collected antique cars. Attending car shows and participating in parades with my antique cars always brought me pleasure.
Traveling abroad and locally was important to me as I loved seeing new places. Bunny and I traveled to England, Spain, Holland, Belgium, Scotland, Bermuda and throughout New England for many years. After our worldly travels we welcomed our daughter, Jill who greatly enriched our lives.
One of my greatest pleasures in life has been spending time with family and friends on Cape Cod, specifically in Brewster. Whether it be watching the sun set at Rock Harbor, going to the beach or taking in the scenery, a part of my heart will always be on Cape Cod.
I firmly believe in helping others as much as one is able, especially since my glass was always half full. Whether it be a regular donation to an animal shelter, donating goods to a survival center, handicap accessibility tools to strangers or supporting the local emergency services, I always did my best to help.
Everyone has life rules that they live by and I made sure to do my best to do right by others. My contagious sense of humor was usually appreciated and right up until the end I was still finding humor in life.
I am predeceased by my parents, Irma and Robert, my uncle Morton and my brother-in-law Ed as well as friends that I hold dear to my heart. Sadly, I am leaving behind my wife Bunny of Westborough, my daughter, Jill and her husband David Ward and my grandchildren Isabella and Lilliana of Worthington, my brother Edward and his family of Indiana, my sister and brother-in-law Carol and Sol Barrocas of Florida, my sister and brother-in-law Renee and Bill DeVine of Long Island, my brother in-law Stanley and his significant other, Helene of Florida, a treasured family friend, Maria Hopewell of Worcester and her family, countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
I owe special thanks for the care and love that has been showered on me while I lived with polymyositis for 16 years. Thank you to Buru and Stephen Kagotho and Benson Waweru. I received exceptional care while at the Jewish Healthcare Center in Worcester. The staff became a second family for me and I will miss them; special thanks to Thalya Santiago and Rayanne Medeiros.
I laughed, I loved, I lived. Now you do the same.
