David P. Mercurio

May 2, 1952 — May 9, 2023

WEST BOYLSTON - David P. Mercurio passed away peacefully after an illness during the early morning hours of May 9th, 2023 with his wife, daughter and son at his bedside. He was predeceased by his two parents, Daniel and Norina (Carima) Mercurio, and by his brother, John Mercurio. He is survived by his loving wife, Melanie (Asadoorian), of 48 years, daughter, Talia A. (Mercurio) LaPointe and her husband Andrew of West Boylston, and his son, Daniel and his wife Joia, also of West Boylston. David was blessed to be called “Papa” to five beautiful grandchildren to whom he deeply cherished, Jameson, Evangeline, Dario, Nico and Mariana. His brother-in-law, Michael Asadoorian and sister-in-law, Paula Mercurio, live in West Boylston as well. In addition to his immediate family, he leaves behind nieces, numerous cousins and caring friends.

David was born, raised and lived in West Boylston his entire life. He was the third-generation owner-operator of a local business, David P. Mercurio and Son Construction, where he displayed a career of unparalleled work ethic. He proudly continued to build upon the quality reputation left by his father and is the oldest construction business in West Boylston.

A man of strong Christian faith, David’s number one priority in his life was his family. Of all his passions and interests, it was his beloved wife, children and grandchildren that he remained focused on. It was clear that the most tranquil moments came when he was surrounded by family, and he was very excited to share that with whomever was in closest proximity at any given time. He was a family-man in the truest sense. David was also a patriot who loved his country and had a deep respect for United States military veterans. He stayed engaged with his community and voiced his appreciation for small town America by volunteering in various organizations such as the West Boylston By-laws Committee, West Boylston Conservation Commission and Clinton Savings Bank Board of Corporators.

David was well known for his love of Italian cooking. His homemade pasta sauce, meatballs, fried peppers, Easter pizza, and handmade pork sausage as well as annual pig roasts, became the foundation for family gatherings. Whenever he was in the kitchen, he would be serenaded by the likings of Dean Martin, Jerry Vale and Frank Sinatra. He raised his children in the traditions of their Italian heritage and introduced those who were unfamiliar to the joys of the culture.

Annual hobbies and traditions included making homemade wine, raising livestock, spending time in the garden and enjoying quality Italian and Armenian foods. David could be seen spending as much time as he could in the outdoors. This included rides with his wife and their dog “Kiwi” in one of his antique Model-A Fords that put a smile on David’s face. David and his family spent countless trips up and down the east coast, especially Florida which they’ve frequented for over three decades.

As a lionized patriarch with a gentle heart, he would offer the best advice in the form of past experiences and tales of the “good ‘ol days”. His stories will long resonate within us.

The family wishes to thank all those who have extended their support through these difficult times, including the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, UMass Memorial Oncology Clinic and Hospital at Home Program as well as Rose Monahan Hospice Home.
