David A. Mattson

HOLDEN – David A. Mattson, Sr., 69, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at St. Vincent Hospital after an illness.



He leaves his wife of 44 years, Gail M. (Erickson) Mattson; three sons, David A. Mattson, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Holden, Shane R. Mattson and his wife Sherry of Auburn and Adam D. Mattson and his wife Sarah of Temple, NH; his mother, Ann C. (Velleco) Goddard of Worcester; a sister, June Grammatic of Auburn; three grandchildren, Katherine, Andrea and Bryanna; many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins. David was predeceased by a brother, Ronald Goddard.



David was born and raised in Worcester and had lived in Boylston for 10 years before moving to Holden in 1979. He graduated from Worcester Vocational High School and later served in the Army Reserves for 5 years. He worked for the Shrewsbury Highway Department for 22 years before retiring. Previously he was an auto mechanic and worked with his uncles for many years at Clearview Service Station in Worcester. David was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Jefferson and enjoyed camping, traveling and trips to Sebago Lake. He was an avid bowler, loved to listen to country music, line dancing and was a huge Elvis fan.



Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Funeral services for David will be held on Friday, May 31, from the funeral home with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Massachusetts, 460 Totten Pond Road, Suite 400, Waltham, MA 02451.
