BARRE - David "Rick" E. Ljungberg, Jr., 68, formerly of Holden, died peacefully on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at UMass Memorial Healthcare after an illness with his family by his side. Born in Jacksonville, North Carolina and raised in Holden, Rick was the son of David E. and Nancy P. (Plumley) Ljungberg and lived over 20 years in Barre.
He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his family including his son, David "Davey" E. Ljungberg, III and his wife, Brittany of East Brookfield; his father, David "Bucky" E. Ljungberg of Whitinsville; his sister, Arline Mackay of Rutland; three brothers, Ladd Ljungberg of Westport, CT, Jon Ljungberg of Winnipeg, Canada, and Nils Ljungberg and his wife, Karen of Charlton; his beloved grandson, Ollie Ljungberg; nieces, nephews, cousins, his uncle and many extended family members. He also leaves many treasured lifelong friends. Besides his mother Nancy, Rick is predeceased by his infant son, Tristan Ljungberg and his brother-in-law, Scott Mackay.
Rick attended Wachusett Regional High School and worked over 20 years as a car salesman for several local car dealers including the former Ragsdale Chevrolet. Among his many passions, golf held a special place in Rick's heart. He found immense joy in golf and cherished the camaraderie shared with his friends on the greens at Holden Hills Country Club. Rick's skill on the golf course was matched only by his infectious laughter and genuine connections he forged with those who shared his love for the game.
He embraced life with an unmatched enthusiasm and an unwavering love for the outdoors. Whether carving through powdery slopes, casting his line into a serene lake with his son Davey by his side, or conquering rugged terrains on his four-wheeler, Rick's zest for life was evident in every adventure he undertook.
A true daredevil at heart, Rick lived his mantra of "living for the moment." His adventurous soul touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him, leaving indelible memories of love, laughter, courage, and loyalty. He will be dearly missed, but his memory will forever be a source of inspiration and a reminder to embrace life with the same fervor and fearlessness that defined his remarkable journey.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Rick's family from 4 to 7 pm on Thursday, December 14, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A memorial service honoring and celebrating his life will be held 11 am on Friday, December 15, at the funeral home.
