David E. Kinell

September 3, 1966 — February 11, 2025

BARRE - David E. Kinell, 58, passed away suddenly on February 11, 2025, at UMass Memorial Medical Center.

He was born on September 3, 1966, to Edwin E. and Hildegard A. (Johnson) Kinell in Worcester, MA. David attended local grade school in Holden and then Rutland. He was a 1984 graduate of Wachusett Regional High School. Upon graduating high school, David enlisted into the U.S. Coast Guard and became an Electronics Technician. He proudly served his country for 6 years and loved to reminisce about his time at sea with his friends and family. After his Coast Guard service, he revisited his passion for nature and wilderness survival and studied Outdoor Recreation at Unity College in Maine.

David and his wife, Lisa, attended high school together but only knew of each other. They serendipitously crossed paths several times in the 1990s before reconnecting in 1999. David met Lisa's daughters, Lindsay and Shannon, and fell in love with their family of three. In 2000, David and Lisa welcomed their daughter Nicole and they married a year later on April 28, 2001. In 2002, they completed their family when they welcomed their daughter Robyn.

David worked for 26 years as a fire suppression technical specialist, first with Kidde Fenwal for 11 years and then relocating to Xtralis/Honeywell for 15 years up until the time of his passing. He was often found doing research to find the perfect gift for his loved ones, or revisiting old hobbies like kayaking and hiking and enjoying the peace and quiet of nature. He took his daughters to the movies, chaperoned their school events, and most recently, loved teaching his granddaughter his favorite games and activities. Above all, he loved spending time with his family, including large family gatherings often hosted by his brother and sister-in-law David and Laurie Cole and attending football games and weekend getaways with his brother and sister-in-law, Eric and Deb Kortenhoeven.

David is predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Lisa V. Kinell of Barre, his daughters Lindsay Creelman and her husband Dave (DJ) of Rutland, Shannon Kane, Nicole Kinell and her fiance Kamal Daigneault of Holden, Robyn Kinell and his beloved granddaughter, Avery Creelman. He also leaves behind his sister Lauren Pusateri, her husband Mark and their three children Matthew, Jayson and Katrina of West Boylston, and his brother Andrew Kinell of Wintergarten, Florida. He was cherished by his pups, Luke and Benji. Finally, he will forever be loved and missed by his extended family, including his great-nieces and nephews.
