Biography
HOLDEN - David L. Clapp, Sr., 57, of Holden, died on Monday, May 25, 2015 at UMass Healthcare – University Campus. Born and raised in Holden, David was the son of Mark L. and Jacqueline (Roberge) Clapp and lived here his entire life.
He leaves his wife and childhood sweetheart of 37 years, Nina M. (Zona) Clapp; two sons, David L. Clapp, Jr. and his fiancée, Kendall of Dallas, Texas and John M. Clapp and his wife, Audrey of Holden; a twin brother, Dana L. Clapp and his wife, Jen of Vermont; two sisters, Lee Grove and her husband, Greg of Eureka, Montana and Leslie Bagnall and her husband, Paul of Edgartown, Martha’s Vineyard; a grandson, John M. Clapp, Jr., of Holden; several nephews and nieces.
David graduated from Wachusett Regional High School in 1976 and later attended school to be a master plumber. He started his plumbing career with his dad at Holden Heating Company where he worked for several years. David, along with a close friend Anthony Queeney, started Progressive Plumbing in Holden and later went on his own and operated David L. Clapp and Sons Plumbing and Heating Company. He also served as the assistant plumbing inspector for the Town of Holden for many years until becoming the lead inspector.
He enjoyed spending summer vacations with his family on Martha’s Vineyard. He particularly looked forward to surf casting for stripers and digging for clams with his two boys and wife. David was proud of his sons and their accomplishments. He coached Holden youth basketball and baseball and will be remembered for his enthusiasm and animated coaching style. He was considered the “Bobby Knight” of the CRA League. He passionately followed all New England sport teams and could recite most teams and players statistics. Other interests of David included golf, cooking, spending time at home with his family and Clapp Thanksgiving gatherings.
Honoring David's wishes, a remembrance gathering will held privately on Martha's Vineyard. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in David's name to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Funeral arrangements are under the care Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
