David A. Beckwith

HOLDEN – David A. Beckwith, 66, of 836 Main St., died peacefully in the Washburn House, Worcester, on Thursday, September 1, 2005, after a brief illness.

He leaves his son, Floyd A. Beckwith and his wife Denise of Chesapeake, Virginia; and his former wife, Laura S. Beckwith of Holden. He was born in Worcester, son of Allen C. and Lillian S. (Wilde) Beckwith, and had lived in Holden since 1972. In 1956, he graduated from North High School in Worcester. He later earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Clark University in 1961, a Masters of Education from Worcester State in 1964, and earned an advanced degree from Indiana University in 1966.

Mr. Beckwith was a teacher from 1968 to 1997 of Physics and Chemistry at Wachusett Regional High School in Holden. From 1962-1968 he taught at Tahanto Regional High School in Boylston. He was a member of St. Michael’s on-the-Heights Church. He raced automobiles and enjoyed rebuilding Porsche sports cars. He was an avid book collector and reader, and enjoyed performing magic and attending magic shows. He was active in boys scouting and attained the rank of Eagle Scout.

The funeral service for Mr. Beckwith will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 3, in St. Michael’s on-the-Heights Church, 340 Burncoat Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery, 1290 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 2, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VNA Care Network, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608; or to the Washburn House, 1183 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01603.
