S B. Darlene Lindgren Beland

February 27, 1922 — June 29, 2008

WORCESTER – B. Darlene (Hodges) Lindgren Beland, 86, of Worcester passed away peacefully into the hands of the Lord surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, June 29, 2008, in the Lutheran Home of Worcester after an illness.

Her husband of 26 years, Howard W. Beland died in 2000. She leaves two sons, Everett "Terry" L. Lindgren, Jr. and his wife Brenda of Wayzata, Minnesota and Bradford P. Lindgren and his wife Rhonda of Auburn; four daughters, Karen O'Connor of Holden, Diane Provencal and her husband Dan of Spencer, Janet Sundeen and her husband Ken of Kittanning, PA and Diane C. Lind-Ela of Auburn; two brothers, Edward F. Collins and Richard L. Collins, both of Texas; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Everett "Skip" Lindgren, Sr., and a son, Kurt Lindgren, predeceased her. She was born in Ashtabula, Ohio, daughter of Herbert and Charlotte (Grover) Watson. She was raised by Ella and Ferman Hodges in Worcester and lived in Worcester most of her life.

Mrs. Beland graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester and attended classes at the Worcester Art Museum. She was a patriotic and proud U.S. World War II Army Veteran having served in the European African Middle Eastern Theatre. She was a member of the Chester P. Tuttle American Legion Post 279 in Auburn and the Disabled American Veterans. She was a longtime member of Al-Anon. She was best known for her compassion, wit, wisdom, listening skills, service to her country and love of her cats. She was a devoted and dedicated mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Beland's family wish to express their sincere appreciation to the caring and compassionate staff at the Lutheran Home in Worcester.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1st, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral service for Mrs. Beland will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2nd, in the Faith Baptist Church, 22 Faith Avenue, Auburn. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. Memorial donations may be made to The Lutheran Home of Worcester Building Fund, 26 Harvard Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
