STERLING – Darlene M. Hoover, 61, of Sterling, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 15, 2017 while jogging with her best friend and partner, James Shope. Born in Cambridge on November 3, 1955, Darlene was the daughter of Frederick and Gladys J. (Parks) Hoover and lived her formative years in Watertown and Stow before moving to Sterling in 1982. Darlene was previously married to Verne S. Murray of Sterling with whom she had two children, Shane S. Murray and Shiloh S. Murray both of Sterling. Darlene graduated from Nashoba Regional High School in Bolton and worked over 20 years at the former Digital Equipment Corp in Maynard. For the past 8 years, she worked as the office manager at Soil Exploration Corp. in Leominster. Darlene had a zest for life and a true appreciation for nature and the outdoors. She was known for her baked goods and was forever excited about cooking some of her famous recipes for her family and friends. Darlene was kindhearted, engaging and could light up a room with her smile. She was a proud, loving mother of her children and their many accomplishments. She will forever remain in their hearts. Besides her parents, Frederick and Gladys and longtime companion, James Shope, Darlene will be affectionately remembered and missed by her son and daughter, Shane and Shiloh; brothers and sisters, Douglas J. Hoover and wife, Sharon Hoover of Stow, Cynthia J. Hoover Beaudoin and partner, Gary Oldenburg of Westwood, Krissy E. Gleason and husband, Brian Gleason of Leominster, Timothy G. Hoover and wife, Christine Hoover of Utah; nephews, Brady, Nicholas, Brandon, Nathaniel; and niece, Kelsey; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Darlene’s family from 4 to 7 pm on Friday, April 21, at the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Rd., Sterling. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Saturday, April 22, at St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge St., Sterling.
