HOLDEN – Daniel T. Murphy, 66, of Holden, passed away at home surrounded by his loving wife and family on Sunday, August 15, 2010.
He leaves his loving and devoted wife of 24 years, Sharon F. (Mahan) Murphy; two step-daughters, Kristine J. Oberle of West Boylston and Julie L. Brodeur and her husband Anthony of Rutland; a sister, Geraldine Babcock and her husband Richard of Vernon, CT; a brother, James C. Murphy and his wife Paula of Hubbardston; four grandchildren, Joshua, Kayla, Jessica and Brandon; and four nieces.
Dan was born in Worcester, a son of Daniel T. and Mary M. (Hickey) Murphy, Sr., and lived in Shrewsbury before moving to Holden 23 years ago. He was a graduate of Shrewsbury High School and Quinsigamond Community College and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, 2727th Air Munitions Squadron. For 30 years, he worked for New England Power retiring in 1999, and as a security guard for five years at the Fallon Clinic on Plantation Street. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, member of the Worcester Pistol and Rifle Club in Boylston, the NRA and the Gun Owners Action League (GOAL). Dan enjoyed traveling with his wife.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 17th, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 18th, from the funeral home with an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will be private in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dan's memory may be made to the Overlook Hospice Services, 88 Masonic Home Road, Charlton, MA 01507.
