GARDNER - Dana J. MacAlister, 59, was taken home by Jesus on Sunday July 6, 2014 at home, surrounded by his loving family, following a brave fight with cancer.
He was born in Marlborough. He graduated from Wachusett Regional High School in Holden. Later, he acquired a real estate license and a class B driver’s license. Over the years, he worked several jobs but his favorite was at the Telegram and Gazette as an equipment maintenance mechanic in the printing department, where he could work alongside of his son, Brandon.
Dana was energetic and active. He was an extremely hard worker, often working 2-3 jobs, and usually could be seen with his jeans and work boots on. He loved muscle cars and working on cars. Some of his favorite pastimes were going to hot rod shows with his wife and swap meets with his son, Brandon. He was funny and famous for his quick sarcasm and quick quips to make people laugh. He was completely devoted to providing for his family. But, the most important thing to him was his faith in the Lord, that never wavered even during the end of his life. He is deeply mourned by his family.
He leaves behind his most beloved wife of 37 years, Sandy (Metcalf)MacAlister; his five 5 children, Amy MacAlister of Holden, Brandon MacAlister and his wife, Mindy of Pomfret, CT and their three children, Katelyn Noah and Allison, Robert MacAlister of Virginia and his two children, Brittney and Brett, Amanda LaPointe and her husband, Rick of San Jose, CA, and Joshua MacAlister of Gardner; his parents, of Joanne (Proctor) and James MacAlister of Dover-Foxcroft, ME; his siblings, Linda Robinson of NM, Kevin MacAlister of ME, Craig MacAlister of ME, and Laurie Mondeau of CO. He was predeceased by his brother, Brian.
