Shrewsbury/West Boylston - Cynthia “Cindy” J. (Freeland) Lloyd, 78 of Shrewsbury and formerly of West Boylston, died peacefully on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, Worcester.
Cindy’s beloved husband of 40 years, Donald B. Lloyd died in 2000. She leaves her lifelong friend, Shirley M. Rotti of Sterling; her nieces and nephews, Cynthia Freeland of Arizona, Belinda Schmer of Washington, Wendy Lemas of Arizona, Diana Fobarty of Leominster, Roed Freeland of Washington, David Lloyd of California and Douglas Lloyd of Illinois; and many other close friends. She also leaves her beloved cat, Buffy.
She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Clifford M. and Ruth (Hathaway) Freeland. Cindy was raised in Holden, and later had lived in West Boylston for 50 years before moving to the Southgate community in Shrewsbury. She was a member of the 1954 graduating class of Holden High School and served on the reunion committee. Cindy retired in 1993 as a communication analyst for the former New England Power Company, Westborough, where she had worked for 38 years. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury and a former member of the Christ Lutheran Church, West Boylston. Cindy loved Cape Cod, and especially enjoyed the time she spent summering at their home in Dennisport. Most recently, Cindy truly enjoyed and embraced the whole community at Southgate of Shrewsbury. She was a former longtime season ticket holder for the Worcester Ice Cats and an avid knitter for various charities. She loved skiing, bowling, motorcycle trips and traveling.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Cindy’s family and enjoy light refreshments at the First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury, 19 Church Road, Shrewsbury on Friday, May 16, from 9:30 am until the time of her service at 11 am. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, c/o VNA Care, Inc. 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608.
