HOLDEN/WORCESTER – Alice C. (Rutherford) Connor, 70, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at her daughter's home in Mauldin, South Carolina after an illness.
Her husband of 33 years, Richard S. Connor died in 1999. She leaves a daughter, Edith M. Connor of Mauldin, SC; three sons, Mark W. Connor of Worcester, Brian T. Connor of Charlton, and Edward M. Connor and his wife Dianne of Holden; a sister, Olive M. DeMarco of Worcester; a brother, Herbert E. Ruffle, Jr. of Largo, FL. A brother, Edward M. Ruffle of Worcester, predeceased her. She also leaves four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and many nephews and nieces.
She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Thomas H. and Olive M. (Mellor) Rutherford, and graduated from Commerce High School in 1959. Alice was a sales associate at Mahoney Furniture and Levitz Furniture for 35 years retiring due to her illness in 1994. She was very active in her community, a member of the First Congregational Church of Holden, a past Chief Daughter of the Daughters of Scotia Thistle Lodge #3 in Worcester and a volunteer at the Oakham Senior Center and its Meal on Wheels program.
A memorial service for Mrs. Connor will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 13th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton.
