HOLDEN - Corliss Ward Buskey, Jr., 83, of Holden, died at home on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 after an illness. Born and raised in Worcester, Corliss was the only child of Corliss W. and Ruth M. (LeMire) Buskey and lived 60 years in Holden.
Corliss graduated from Classical High School in 1950 and later from Worcester State Teachers, now known as Worcester State University, majoring in History. In 1953, Corliss began his 36 year career in auditing working at the former accounting firm George A. Smith, Inc. in Worcester. After merging with Main Hurdman, the Worcester accounting firm soon became part of a larger international company called Peat, Marwick, Main and Company, now known as KPMG. He was a Partner - Principal Auditor until his retirement in 1989. After a brief try at retirement, Corliss went back to work at Southbridge Savings Bank as their first Internal Auditor where he worked for many years. He was instrumental in developing their Internal Auditing Department. During his free time, Corliss taught international auditors throughout the state, as well as speaking to many institutions and organizations including Fairfield University, University of Mass., and many Chambers of Commerce. He was well-known and highly regarded in the banking industry for his knowledge and intuitive nature. In 1989, Corliss was presented the Key to Worcester by Mayor Jordan Levy for his 36 years of dedicated service to Peat, Marwick, Main & Co.
In the early 1950's, Corliss met his future wife, Dorothy Ann Eden at the former Warner Theater in Worcester while working as an usher and she as a ticket and candy girl. They married June 20, 1953 at St. John's Church in Worcester. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Jefferson and the former Wachusett Council, Knights of Columbus where he served as Deputy Grand Night and treasurer. Corliss was a faithful Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins fan.
He leaves his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Ann (Eden) Buskey; two sons, Bruce Corliss Buskey of Holden and Brett Clay Buskey of Worcester. His daughter, Bonnie Ruth (Buskey) Weinstein of Land O'Lakes, Florida died on July 17, 2002.
Funeral services and burial in Grove Cemetery were private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made instead to the VNA Care Network, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01609, or the Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden St., Worcester, MA 01606. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Richard S. Mansfield of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.
