BARRE, MA – Cora Geraldine (Millward) Orsted, 97, a longtime Holden resident, passed away on January 15, 2022 in the comfort of her Barre home. Born in Gloversville, New York on July 5, 1924, Cora was a daughter of Charles and Ida (Brower) Millward and sister to the late June (Millward) Foss.
Until her husband’s passing in 1995, Cora was married for 47 years to Warner Everett Orsted, a WWII Veteran and mail carrier for the Holden Post Office. She was also predeceased by their sons Robert Charles Orsted in 1965 and Rodney Warner Orsted in December.
By far her greatest joy came from being a Mother, Nana and Aunt Cora, devoting most of her life to caring for generations of the family’s children. Cora enjoyed gardening, birds, camping, and her many pets she had over the years. She was a Bookkeeper at Duesberg-Bosson Woolen Company, a Nurse at Holden Hospital, performed vision and hearing tests at Holden schools, a Scout Leader and Sunday School Teacher at Chaffin Congregational Church.
She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her daughters Susan Daryl Allberg and her husband Terry of Barre, MA, and Linda Finkelstein and her husband Dan of Clemmons, NC, 8 granddaughters,12 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, a cousin, and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Cora’s life on Friday, April 22 beginning with an 11 am Visitation followed by a 12:00 pm Memorial Service at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street in Holden. Burial will follow at Grove Cemetery in Holden where she will be laid to rest in a combined service with her sister June.
