Constance J. (Leger) Beland

May 26, 1934 — August 17, 2017

STERLING - Constance J. (Leger) Beland, 83, of Sterling, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, August 17, 2017, at the River Terrace Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Lancaster.  Her husband of 51 years, Robert R. Beland, died in 2014.  She was born in Fitchburg, a daughter of Alphee and Valita (Roy) Leger, and had lived in Sterling for over 50 years.  She was a graduate of St. Bernard’s Catholic high school in Fitchburg.


Constance worked for C.A. Cross & Co. in Fitchburg, where she met her future husband, Robert.  After many years as a full-time homemaker, she returned to work as an employee, and then manager, of Hebert Candies in Sterling for over 12 years.  She later was a cashier at Price Chopper in West Boylston.


She was an active member of St. Richard of Chichester Church, teaching CCD and singing in the parish choir.  She was a lover of butterflies, enjoyed traveling, ballroom dancing with Robert, gardening and ceramics, knitting and crocheting, reading, and baking special homemade desserts for family and friends.


Constance leaves her children, Stephen A. Beland of Seoul, South Korea, Christopher J. Beland and his wife, Ainee of Leominster, Daniel R. Beland and his wife, Carrie of Templeton, Brian D. Beland and his wife, Dianna Lello of Lake Ronkonkoma, NY, Elizabeth A. Beland of Gardner, Jennifer M. Leclerc and her husband, David of South Grafton, Michael P. Beland of Sterling, and Michelle L. Beland of Webster; two brothers, Roger Leger of Fitchburg and Gerald Leger of Lunenburg; two sisters, Alice Leger of Leominster and Jeanne Eads of Davie, FL; her 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren whom she adored; many nephews and nieces and grandnephews and grandnieces.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 22, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling and again at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 23, before leaving in procession for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge St., Sterling.  Burial will be at 1 p.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Richard of Chichester Church Food Pantry, P.O. Box 657, Sterling, MA 01564.
