STERLING - Conrad E. Provencher, 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Life Care of Leominster after an illness. He was born and raised in Gardner, the son of Arthur J. and Yvonne (Chicoine) Provencher and had lived in Sterling since 1958.
He leaves his loving wife of 64 years, Jacqueline (Taft) Provencher; his sons, Barry J. Provencher and his wife, Patricia of Wrentham, and William J. Provencher and his wife, Leslie of Mexico, MO; his daughter, Jenny A. Provencher of Boylston; three grandchildren, Sarah J., Amy M., and Margaret A. Provencher; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert and Roland Provencher and his sister, Theresa Jean.
Conrad graduated from Gardner High School and later proudly served his country with the U.S. Army Reserves until 1963. He was a welder by trade and worked for Jamesbury Corporation in Worcester as a certified nuclear welder, before retiring in 1995. Previously, he worked at Wain-Roy Corporation in Hubbardston and Robertson Metals in West Boylston.
Conrad was a talented trumpet player and played with a number of Jazz bands, including Happy Hour Jazz Band, Sterling Cadet Band, Symphonites, and Quabbin Community Band. He was devoted to his family and could always be found working in his gardens. His special pride was his home, an antique house built in the 1770s which he restored through the years, including rebuilding 3 brick fireplaces, a bake oven, and the chimney.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Conrad's family on Saturday, April 22nd from 1 to 2 p.m. followed by a celebration of life service at 2 p.m. in The First Church in Sterling, 6 Meeting House Hill Road in Sterling. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Sterling Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 515, Sterling, MA 01564. Arrangements are under the care of the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling.
