Sterling - Clyde C. Palmer, 89, died at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, July 24, 2015. Mr. Palmer was born in North Adams, son of the late William T. and Vivien (Cobleigh) Palmer, and grew up in Sterling.
He leaves his wife of 63 years, Faythe (Brown) Palmer; a son, Barry Palmer and his wife, Paula, a daughter, Beth Hoglund and her husband, Charles all of Sterling; five grandchildren, Matthew Palmer and his wife, Melissa of CO, Heather and Jennifer Palmer of Boylston, Amy Wisniewski and her husband, Mike of Holden and Toby Hoglund of Holden; two great grandchildren, Sarah and Emily Palmer of CO; and several nieces and nephews. Clyde was predeceased by two brothers and a sister.
Mr. Palmer graduated from Leominster High School in 1944. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and proudly served in the North Atlantic and Pacific as a Machinist Mate 3rd Class during WWII. Clyde went on to work for the New England Telephone and Telegraph Co. and later AT&T Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1984. He was a life member of the Sterling American Legion Post 189 as well as a member of the First Church of Sterling and the Sterling Historical Society. Clyde had a love for fishing, hunting and vacationing in Maine and California. He will be greatly missed by his loving family.
