Biography
HOLDEN, MA/PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC – The Rev. Clinton P. Goddard, 77, formerly of Holden, died peacefully on Saturday, July 28, 2012 under the loving care of his family and the staff at Tidelands Community Hospice in Georgetown, South Carolina. Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Rev. Goddard was the son of Raymond Goddard and Olive (Parks) LaBaron and lived in Holden and many years in the Worcester Area before moving to South Carolina 12 years ago.
Rev. Goddard was the former pastor at the Evangelical Congregational Church in Hubbardston where he served from 1981 until his retirement in 1997. Before being called to the ministries, he worked in sales at Baronet Coffee in Hartford, CT and John Hancock life Insurance Co. in Worcester. In 1974, he attended the Elim Bible Institute in Lima, New York and in 1987 graduated with high honors from Quinsigamond Community College. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean conflict serving aboard the USS Cheboygan (LST-533) and the USS McCaffery (DDE-860).
He was a long time missionary, co-founder and president of the North Haiti Mission, and was a co-founder and present administrator of the Coastal Haiti Mission, a mission to maintain a foster care program for homeless children in northern Haiti, and to advance a lighting program through solar power to light up Haiti’s homes. He is a former secretary of the Worcester Chapter of Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship International.
Rev. Goddard authored two books, “The Provision” in 2005, and the “Weigh Anchor: Leaving the Past Behind” in 2010. In his spare time he prepared for and ran three Boston Marathons, the most recent at the age of 65.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Constance “Connie” (Robbie) Goddard; a son, James P. Goddard and his wife Cathy of Indian Trail, NC; two granddaughters, Kaitlin Simpson of Monroe, NC and Rachel Goddard of Indian Trail; a brother, Gilchrist Garvey of Cumberland, RI; nephews and nieces.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Rev. Goddard’s family on Thursday, August 2, from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. at which time a funeral service will be held with the Rev. Dr. John Lindsay officiating at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Interment and service of committal will follow at High Plain Cemetery, High Street, West Boylston (Oakdale). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Coastal Haiti Mission, 268 Reef Run Road, Pawleys Island, SC 29585.
