HOLDEN – Claire D. (Goodrich) Slovin Gurney, 86, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 31, 2018. She was born in Raynham, the daughter of Cecil and Irma (Henry) Goodrich and had lived the past 55 years in Holden.
Claire graduated from South High School in 1949 and the Salter Secretarial School in 1951. She was a secretary and a learning disabilities technician for the Wachusett Regional School District before retiring. Claire was a member of the First Unitarian Church of Worcester, the Joy of Music Program, Tower Hill Botanic Gardens, Wachusett Greenways, the Mass Audubon Society, Friends of the Gale Free Library and Earth Day Recycling.
Claire leaves her daughter-in-law, Barbara E. Sorley of Jefferson; her niece, Vicki Minard and her husband, Robert of Laveen, AZ, and their children, Jodi Benson and family of Nashville, TN, Nicholas Minard and family of Chandler, AZ; her nephew, Richard Goodrich and his wife, Bonnie of Rutland, VT and their children, Russell and family of Bennington, VT and Chenoa Goodrich and family of Albany, NY; her nephew, James Goodrich and his wife, Karon of North Eastham and their children, James Goodrich and family of Canton, Hope Goodrich of North Eastham and Kevin Goodrich of Harwichport; cousins, Wilma Goodrich and family of Indiana and Shella Amato and Marc Loher of Ohio. She was predeceased by her husbands, Gordon T. Gurney and Robert L. Slovin; her daughters, Noreen Lois Slovin and Doreen Ellen Slovin; and her brother, Russell J. Goodrich.
A memorial service to celebrate Claire’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 5th in the First Unitarian Church of Worcester, 90 Main St., Worcester 01608. A private committal service will be held at a later date at Castleton Cemetery in Vermont. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joy of Music Program, 1 Gorham St., Worcester, MA 01605, the Wachusett Greenways, P.O. Box 121, Holden, MA 01520 or the Mass Audubon Society, Fund for Nature, 208 South Great Rd., Lincoln, MA 01773. Arrangements are under the care of the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
