PAXTON – Claire A. (McDermott) Girouard, age 91, passed away on Friday, July 26th, 2024 at CareOne, Millbury. Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of the late James J. and Sarah G. (Kelly) McDermott.
Claire was raised in Worcester where she graduated from St. Peter’s High School, class of 1951. Claire married her high school sweetheart, Lawrence A. Girouard, and together they moved to the family land in Paxton where they raised their family.
She worked at Paxton Center School for many years, where she made many friends. Claire enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening, cooking and reading. She was a member of the Women’s Guild, Richards Memorial Library, and Paxton Women’s Club. She was a parishioner of St. Columba Parish in Paxton.
She leaves behind 4 grandchildren, Meghan McCann and her husband, Denis of Boylston, Brendan Hunt and his wife, Kelly of North Brookfield, Adam Jackson of Dudley, and Shane Jackson; 6 great-grandchildren, Ailis, Maeve, Charley, Maddox, Kaden, Logan; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Claire is predeceased by her husband, Lawrence A. Girouard; a son, Thomas F. Girouard; 2 daughters, Nancy Painchaud and Kathleen Grenier; a brother, Edward McDermott; and 3 sisters, Sarah Mullaney, Winifred Higgins and Marie McGrath.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 7th, at St. Columba Parish, 10 Richards Ave., Paxton. Interment will follow at Mooreland Cemetery in Paxton. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.
