Christopher J. Lipka

HOLDEN - Christopher J. Lipka passed away quietly on the evening of June 26, 2016 at Golden Living Hospice after a long illness at the age of 50 years old.  His mother, Irene P. (Smiech) Lipka, passed away in 1996, and his father Joseph E. Lipka passed away in 2010.  He leaves his wife, Deborah (Mercer) Lipka from whom he was separated at the time of his passing; his brothers, Dennis J. Lipka and Kenneth E. Lipka and his wife, Theresa Lipka all of Holden; his niece, Stephanie Lipka of Connecticut; and nephews, Thomas Lipka and his wife, Kate and daughters, Natalie and Madeline of Baltimore, Maryland, Andrew Lipka of Holden, and Daniel Lipka of Connecticut.
Born in Worcester in 1965, Christopher lived much of his life in Holden.  A graduate of Wachusett Regional High School in 1983, he worked in construction for Linden Builders and as a private contractor.   In 1997 he enlisted in the United States Navy, attended the Naval Submarine Training School New London and received specialized training in underwater detection technology.  Subsequently, he was stationed for the balance of his service at the U.S Naval Station in Norfolk, Virginia.  He served as Senior Sonar Operator aboard the U.S.S. L Mendel Rivers. During his service, Christopher was deployed to the Mediterranean Sea, the Persian Gulf, and the northern Atlantic Ocean.
Upon completion of his naval service, he served in the US Naval Reserve in Groton, and worked for R. H. White Construction and several other construction firms before his medical condition made it no longer possible to do this work.  Christopher was an excellent chess player, enjoyed Nascar Racing attending many such events, and was a skilled and knowledgeable craftsman in residential and commercial construction.Services and burial are private at the convenience of the family.  He will be placed to rest at the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery in Winchendon.  Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden is assisting the family with arrangements.  In lieu of flowers,  gifts in Christopher’s name may be made to a charity of the giver’s choice.
