Biography
WORCESTER – Christine L. (Kenney) Maloney, 72, of the Willows at Worcester Retirement Community passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, January 28, 2017. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Charles and Bertha (Peterson) Kenney and lived many years in Holden before returning to Worcester in 1993. Christine is survived by her loving daughter, Laura Lonergan and her husband, Darin of Brookfield, CT; her sister, Mary Lucey and her husband, John of Worcester; three grandchildren, Caroline Elizabeth, William Charles and Emma Elizabeth Lonergan; her former husband, David C. Maloney; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Nancy Murphy and her son, Christopher Maloney who passed away in 2004. Christine graduated from South High School with the class of 1962 and went on to earn a Bachelor’s in Biology as the first class to graduate with this degree from Fitchburg State College. She earned a Master’s in Education (focus on Science) Worcester State College. She worked at the Chandler Magnet School in Worcester for over 15 years. For many years Christine loved gatherings with her family at the family’s summer home in Harwichport, MA. She loved traveling, literature, the theatre, sewing, crafts and being part of the Willows community. Christine was loving, adventurous and independent while also being deeply connected and devoted to her immediate and extended family. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service honoring and celebrating Christine’s life at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.
