Chester R. Alexandrowicz

WEST BOYLSTON – Chester R. Alexandrowicz, 90, of Crescent Street, died, Tuesday, January 26, 2010 in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester after a long illness.

He leaves his wife of 67 years, Mildred J. (Richinick) Alexandrowicz; a son, Richard J. Alexandrowicz; a daughter, Paula J. Alexandrowicz; a grandson, James P. Alexandrowicz all of West Boylston; a brother, Alfred Alexandrowicz and his wife Mary of Millbury; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Henry F. and Edmund Alexandrowicz and a sister, Ann Salerno. He was born on July 20, 1919 and raised in Worcester, the son of the late Benjamin and Veronica (Matulevich) Alexandrowicz.

Chester attended Worcester Public Schools and graduated from Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. He has lived in West Boylston for 60 years. Chester was very proud of his home that was originally the rectory to St. Anthony's Catholic Church, which stood by the Old Stone Church, until it was relocated to Crescent Street. He loved to show everyone who visited pictures of his home on its original site and tell its history.

Chester served his country in the Army with the 101st Airborne Division and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He worked as an electrician for Warner-Swasey Company before retiring in 1982. Previously, he worked for Pullman-Standard, the West Boylston Light Department and Norton Company Machine Tool Division. For many years he served as a volunteer firefighter in West Boylston. He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church and the West Boylston Harold N. Keith American Legion, Post #204.

Chester loved working in his vegetable garden, making wooden crafts and listening to polka music. He also enjoyed travel tours with his family and reading maps.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 29th, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. The funeral for Chester will be held on Saturday, January 30th, from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, West Boylston. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, West Boylston. Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 111 Worcester St., West Boylston, MA 01583.
