Charlotte (Porter) Sabagonis, 91, died May 15, 2023, at Athol Memorial Hospital from cardiopulmonary failure on the eve of her 92nd birthday. Charlotte was born in Leominster, Ma. on May 16, 1931, a daughter of the late Rufus and Phoebe (Murray) Porter.
Charlotte is survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, and was predeceased by four sisters, Evelyn Blake, Dorothy Fage, Marjorie Rusk, and Pauline Lampa.
Charlotte grew up on a dairy farm in Sterling, Ma. and had her own horse which she loved to ride. She also had a special fondness for collies and pugs of which she had many over the years.
She graduated from Leominster High School and worked as a secretary at GE before marrying Walter Sabagonis. They designed their own house in Auburn which they both loved. The marriage was not meant to be and ended in divorce years later. Charlotte moved back to her childhood home in Sterling, took care of her mother, and worked at Fairlawn Nursing Home. She eventually moved back to Auburn where she was able to live on her own in the house she loved until she was 87. Charlotte liked antique furniture and had many of the pieces she grew up with around her home. Since the fall of 2018 she had resided at Applewood Home For Elders in Athol.
At Charlotte’s request, there will be no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to gather for a graveside service at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Clinton Rd, Sterling, Ma. Arrangements are under the care of the Miles-Sterling Funeral & Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Rd, Sterling.
