HOLDEN – Charlotte A. (Grimsley) Overton, 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Christopher House in Worcester. She was born in Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Kenneth and Lois Irene (Curry) Grimsley, and had lived in Kansas, Louisiana, New York, and Indiana before settling in Massachusetts.
Charlotte graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Wichita University in Kansas and received her master’s degree in Education from Indiana University. She started her career teaching 3rd graders in Wichita, Kansas, and later became a reading specialist teacher at East Allen County Schools in Fort Wayne, IN. Later in her career, she taught at Wachusett Regional High School and was a visiting instructor for freshman at Worcester State College. She enjoyed teaching and helping her students learn the love of reading. An avid reader herself, she juggled at one time three different book clubs including her favorite in Holden. Charlotte deeply loved her family and had close relationships with all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was proud of her entire family and believed she lived a full and happy life.
Her beloved husband, A.J. Overton, passed away in 2013. They were blessed to have a full and loving marriage of 63 years. She leaves her son, Kenneth J. Overton and his wife, Karen, of Princeton, TX; her daughters, Elizabeth I. Fulton and her husband, Joe David of Ennis, TX, and Kathan Horne and her husband, David, of Worcester, MA; her grandchildren, Greg, Chris, and Andy Overton, Kathan, Loren, and Addison Murphy, Oceana Elia-Hintsa and Dyllon Horne; her great-grandchildren, Maddison Ruth Murphy, Layla and Robel Hintsa; her sister, Barbara Park of New Jersey; and her niece, Jackie Park Albaum, and her husband, Jason and their three children. She was predeceased by her daughter, Ruth Ellen Murphy who passed on November 3, 2006.
