WORCESTER -- Charles A. Remington, 89, of Brookdale Senior Living in Auburn formerly of Worcester, passed away peacefully surrounded by his entire family on Thursday, November 24, 2016. Charles was born and raised in Worcester the son of Charles B. Remington and Elizabeth (Duff) Remington.
Charles will be deeply missed by his daughter Theresa A. Nummelin of Paxton, his sons Patrick J. of Oxford, Michael J. and Susan of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Charles R. of Cheshire Connecticut. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He is pre-deceased by the love of his life Theresa (Gentile) Remington with whom he was married to for 46 years. He is also pre-deceased by his beloved son John Anthony Remington.
Charles was a proud U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and served on the U.S. John Q. Roberts in the Pacific Theater of operation. He was first employed as a steel worker for Johnson Steel & Wire. He later worked for the Worcester Public Schools for over 35 years retiring in 1996. He won numerous awards for his exemplary work and has a tree planted in his honor at Lincoln Street School. He was also employed by Friendly Ice Cream Corporation for over 25 years during that same period.
Charles was a long time parishioner and committed adorer of the Blessed Sacrament at St. George Church where he volunteered to help the parish in numerous ways.
He enjoyed all sports and never missed the opportunity to attend his grandchildren’s activities. Charles was an incredibly kind, generous and hard working man. His Catholic faith and his family were foremost in his life. He was devoted to his wife, children, grandchildren and church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Saturday, November 26, at St. Columba Church, 10 Richards Ave. in Paxton. Charles will be laid to rest next to his wife at the Notre Dame Mausoleum, 162 Webster St., Worcester. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Columba Church Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.
