Charles O. Anderson Jr.

June 23, 1925 — February 2, 2020

HOLDEN – Charles O. Anderson Jr., 94, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. Born in Worcester and Raised in Holden, Charlie was the son of Charles O. and Marion (Woodhead) Anderson and lived many years in Holden, Shrewsbury and Bowdoin, Maine before moving to Auburn in 2018.

His beloved wife of 63 years, E. Louise (Kimerly) Anderson died in 2014. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his two daughters, Faith E. Bourgault and her husband, Edward of Worcester and Beth E. Manero and Paul R. Taylor of Holden; three grandsons; three great grandsons; nephews and nieces.

Charlie was a graduate of Holden High School, class of 1943. With parental permission, Charlie enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he honorably served his country in the Asiatic Pacific during World War II. After returning home, Charlie enrolled at Clark University where he majored and graduated with a degree in education. In June of 1950, Charlie’s Marine Reserve unit was activated, and once again, found himself serving his country in another war in Korea. After returning home from Korea, Charlie decided to become a career Marine and served in Vietnam before retiring in June of 1967.

Upon his retirement from the service, Charlie and his wife Louise returned home to Massachusetts with their two daughters and relocated to Shrewsbury where they spent the following 16 years. During this time he was a devout member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Worcester. In his retirement years, he and Louise moved to Bowdoin, Maine where he enjoyed gardening, cribbage and woodworking and spent the following 37 years. Charlie worked in the electronic field as a sales representative and repair technician. While in Maine, Charlie was an active member of the West Bowdoin Baptist Church and was a former treasurer the Lewiston-Auburn Community Outreach.

Charlie was a true New England sports fan and enjoyed woodworking at his home in Maine. He will be remembered for his patriotism, his love of people and love of God.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Charlie’s family from 1 to 3 pm on Saturday, February 8, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, followed by a service honoring his life at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, www.MCSF.org .
