HOLDEN – Celia R. (Wesolowski) Merchant, 88, of Quinapoxet Street, died at home with her loving family at her side on Sunday, January 13, 2013. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Elmer G. Merchant; two daughters, Mary J. Kauppila and her husband, Glenn of Rutland and Janice L. Keskula and her husband, Douglas of Jefferson; three grandchildren, David and twins Michael and Andrea Kauppila all of Rutland; a sister, Eleanor Rattigan of Natick; a brother, Ernest Wesolowski of Auburn; and nieces and nephews. Celia was predeceased by her twin brother, Chester and her brother, Joseph. She will be sadly missed by the two family pets, Max and Buster.
Celia was born in Holden, the daughter of Wallace and Mary (Pardo) Wesolowski and lived in Jefferson her entire life. She graduated from Holden High School and later the Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing. Celia worked privately as a registered nurse, retiring in 1972. She was a member of Saint Mary’s Church in Jefferson. She enjoyed traveling, camping, bowling, senior walks, spending time with her children, playing cards and spending time with fellow members of the Red Hat Society.
A private committal service at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Holden will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701, the Holden Senior Center Endowment Fund, 1130 Main St., Holden, MA 01520 or to a charity of one’s choice.
