LEOMINSTER/STERLING - Cecile A. (Lebel) Plasse, 93, formerly of Southbridge and Willimantic, CT, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Life Care Center of Leominster. She was born Trois-Pistoles, Quebec, Canada, a daughter of the late Arthur and Maria (Gagnon) Lebel. Cecile immigrated to the United States at the age of 12. She settled in Southbridge where Cecile lived until her marriage to her beloved husband, Joseph B. Plasse. Later, Cecile and Joe relocated to Willimantic, CT where they resided for more than 30 years. Cecile returned to Massachusetts after Joe’s death and settled in Westborough. Ever the strong, independent type, Cecile gained all the tools necessary to continue on as a widow. She learned how to drive and manage her money, all in the interest of not being a burden to her daughter and grandchildren. Cecile remained in Westborough for several years before her health forced to accept a little more help. She has lived at the Life Care Center of Leominster for the past 2 years. Always one who enjoyed working with her hands and possessing a crafty ability, Cecile knitted and sewed countless pieces through the years. She loved shopping and the challenge of seeking out the best bargain while looking for that new outfit or unique item. She was devoted to her family and will forever bring a smile to their faces as they lovingly remember and recount her stories. In addition to her husband, Joe’s passing in 1999, Cecile was predeceased by all 17 of her siblings. She leaves her devoted daughter, Nancy Scarsella and her husband, John of Sterling; her three cherished grandchildren, Christine Scarsella, Laura Newhall and her husband, David, Michael Scarsella and his wife, Jaclyn; as well as her three great-grandchildren, Sarah, Matthew and Andrew; and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Cecile’s family on Thursday, April 7, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling. Her funeral will then process to St. Richard’s Church, 4 Bridge Street, Sterling where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Committal prayers and burial will be held at 1 p.m. in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Webster In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to The Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472 or online at
