Cecil 'Mac' C. Mccauley

December 23, 1914 — September 21, 2015

HOLDEN – Cecil “Mac” C. McCauley, 100, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 21, 2015 at Beaumont of Worcester after a brief illness. He was born in Littleton, New Hampshire, the son of William A. and Myra Elva (Elliott) McCauley and had lived in Holden for over 60 years.

He leaves his loving wife, Virginia (Dickey) McCauley; a son, Robert F. McCauley and his wife, Mary Lou of Fort Myers, FL; two daughters, Anne Marie Joudrey of Worcester and Helen C. Comeau and her husband, Roger of Worcester; two brothers, Kenneth McCauley of Hubbardston and Donald McCauley of Holden; a sister, Helen Breault of Templeton; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Margaret M. McCauley; three sisters, Ruth McGuire, Agnes Riccardi and Bessie Norris; and four brothers, Daniel, Robert, William and Winifred McCauley.

At an early age, Mac left school and went to work for the Conservation Corps to help support his family. In 1943, he enlisted in the service and served his country as a Private in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following the military, he went to work and became a troubleshooter for machinery at Heald Machine Company in Worcester for over 30 years before retiring. Mac was a member of Greendale Peoples' Church, the Greendale Y.M.C.A., and the Greendale Men’s Club. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Rufus Putnam Lodge in Rutland, where he recently was recognized for his 50 years of membership. On May 25, 2014, in celebration of his 100th birthday, Mac received the “Keys to the City of Worcester”. He was devoted to his family and was an avid gardener; his green thumb could grow anything in his “park like” yard. He will be sadly missed.

The McCauley family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation for the care and compassion provided by the staff of the Beaumont of Worcester. It was greatly appreciated.

At Mac’s request, funeral services are private and will be held at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A committal service will be held at the convenience of the family at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
