S Norma C. (Carlson) Mellor

April 5, 1925 — April 23, 2010

HOLDEN – Norma C. (Carlson) Mellor, 85, died peacefully in her home on Holden Street on Friday, April 23, 2010.

She leaves four sons, Carl A. Mellor, Sr. and his wife Barbara and Ellsworth "Chip" Mellor, Jr., all of Jefferson, James G. Mellor and his wife Beth of Princeton and Mark W. Mellor and his fiancée Paula of Holden; three daughters, Diana J. Provencher and her husband Jim and Charlene L. Ross and her husband Darren, all of Rutland, and Sheryl A. Vernon and her husband Jon of South Bend, Indiana; three step-sons, John E. Mellor and his wife Mary, Robert B. Mellor and his wife Linda and Lee C. Mellor and his wife Janet, all of Arizona; a sister, Betty-Lois Benson of Newington, CT; 34 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 3 nieces and a nephew. Her husband, Ellsworth P. Mellor, and a daughter, Martha Davis, predeceased her.

Norma was born in Hartford, Connecticut, a daughter of Arvid S. and Helen C. (Johnson) Carlson, and has lived in Holden since 1956. She was a graduate of Simmons College in Boston where she received her Bachelor's degree in nursing. She was a Registered Nurse at Holden Nursing Home for 20 years, retiring in 1990. Previously she was a pediatric nurse at Boston Children's Hospital.

She was proud of her Swedish heritage and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, its women's circle and the Koinonia fellowship group. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, cross stitching and sharing her creations and stories with family and friends.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 26th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral service for Norma will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 27th, in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Holden. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memorial Fund at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 346 Shrewsbury Street, Holden, MA 01520.
