S Priscilla C. Austin

HOLDEN - Priscilla C. Austin, 63, beloved wife of Murray A. Kohn, died peacefully in her home on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, after a yearlong battle with cancer. Besides her husband of twelve years, she is survived by her brother, David J. Austin and his wife Patricia, niece Elisabeth Austin and nephew, Michael Austin of Overland Park, Kansas; her sister-in-law, Harriet Kohn and brother-in-law, Jack Rockafellow, and niece, Jaime Rockafellow of Dobbs Ferry, NY; and many wonderful aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Priscilla was born in Mineola, New York the daughter of Waldo E. and Eleanor C. (Johnson) Austin and grew up in Holden, graduating from Wachusett Regional High School in 1964. She attended Colby College, Waterville, Maine, from 1964 to 1968 where she studied linguistics. She received her MBA from Simmons Graduate School of Management in Boston in 1990.

Priscilla was an administrative assistant for Northeastern University School of Law in Boston. Previously, she worked as an administrative assistant for both Nixon & King Law Offices in Boston and the Genetics Institute in Cambridge.

A classically-trained accomplished soprano, Priscilla was very active in the Boston Choral Music Community in the 1970s, '80s, and '90s, performing as a recital soloist and as a member of many prominent ensembles, including the Old South Church Choir, the Banchetto Musicale (now the Boston Baroque), the Wintersauce Chorale, and Chorus Pro Musica, where she was a member of the Board of Directors. Priscilla was a lifelong member of the choir of the First Baptist Church of Holden.

After living in Brighton for 26 years, Priscilla moved back to Holden in 1999 with her husband to the family homestead of her great-grandfather, Levi Howe. She loved cooking and gardening.

A Service of Remembrance will be held for family and friends at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 20th, in the First Baptist Church of Holden, 1216 Main Street(Rte. 122A), Holden. Burial will take place prior to the Service of Remembrance at Grove Cemetery, 1290 Main Street, Holden. All are invited to gather at the family home after the service at 52 Reservoir Street, Holden. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to The First Baptist Church of Holden Music Fund, 1216 Main Street, Holden, MA 01520; or the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
