WORCESTER/HOLDEN - Carron C. (Friberg) Mentzer, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, peacefully passed away at Knollwood Nursing Center in Worcester after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. She was 79.
Born and raised in Holden, Carron was the cherished daughter of the late George H. and Charlotte M. (Bengtson) Friberg. She leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth that touched the lives of many.
Carron is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Stephen A. Mentzer, with whom she shared a lifetime of joy and companionship. She is also survived by her children, Scott S. Mentzer and his wife, Jill of Ft. Myers, Florida, and Michelle C. Forsman-Mentzer of Holden, and Carron's sister, Susanne Morrison and her husband, Vincent of Bowling Green, FL. The light of Carron's life her granddaughter Holly Forsman, will always remember her as a source of unconditional love and inspiration. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Wachusett Regional High School, class of 1962, Carron embarked on a career that reflected her dedication and work ethic. She served as a clerk at Freedom Federal Savings Bank and as an administrative assistant at Bennett and Forts Attorneys at Law for several years. Carron concluded her professional journey with 21 years of service in the Town of Holden Assessor's Office before retiring in 2010.
Carron enjoyed singing in the Parkinsons Chorus of Central Massachusetts, playing cribbage at the Holden Senior Center, baking, and many needlework crafts which she so generously gave to others. She received many years of support and compassionate care from Sumit Elder Care, Christopher House Nursing Center, and Knollwood Nursing Center
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects and share memories with Carron's family from 4 to 7 pm on Tuesday, December 19, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A funeral service, honoring and celebrating her remarkable life, will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, December 20, at the funeral home. The service will be followed by interment at Grove Cemetery in Holden.
