Carolyn C. (Choney) Cowal

October 8, 1925 — November 18, 2022

WORCESTER - Carolyn C. (Choney) Cowal passed away on Friday, November 18, 2022 at the age of 97. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Josephine (Küchle) Choney.

Carolyn spent her early years in Worcester, graduating from Commerce High School and Salter College. After college she joined the USAF and served as a Chaplain’s assistant stationed in England. Upon her return to the United States, she worked for many years as a secretary for the Veteran’s Association in Worcester. In 1974, she married Anthony Cowal and together they enjoyed many adventures until his passing in 1990.

Carolyn appreciated life. She loved music, cats, traveling, reading, spending time on Cape Cod with family, and treating her relatives to sweet treats (especially trips to the local ice cream parlor). She was a longtime member of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Worcester and volunteered countless hours of her time to the Worcester public schools. Carolyn was authentically and wholeheartedly there for those in her life.

Carolyn leaves behind her sister, Joan Thompson of Worcester, two nieces and their spouses, Tracy McLaughlin Grandeau/Seth Grandeau, and Kelly McLaughlin/Melissa Rones, her brother-in-law John McLaughlin, her nephew Jeff Bobeck, her niece Chris Bobeck, great-niece Josephine Bobeck, great-nephew Erich Bobeck, her daughter-in-law Sally Grooms Cowal, and her step-grandchildren Gregory Cowal, Kirsten Cowal, Alexandra Cowal, Peter Garran, Heather Garran.

She is predeceased by her husband, Anthony Cowal, her sisters Gloria Bobeck and Nancy McLaughlin, stepchildren Anthony Cowal and Claudia Tucker and her nephew Robert Bobeck.

Relatives and friends are invited to a funeral service at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 3rd at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. Burial will follow at Grove Cemetery in Holden. To help honor Carolyn’s love of animals (especially cats), in lieu of flowers her family invites you to donate to your local animal shelter.
